Naked Skydiving Now Available @ Mira Mesa Barnes and Noble

After talking to Cameron, the head cashier at Barnes & Noble, he agreed to carry a few copies of my autobiographical novel, “Naked Skydiving,” the story of a dream interpreter, traveling throughout west coast before 9-11.

There might also be an open reading at this Barnes & Noble near the 15 freeway on Mira Mesa Blvd this Wednesday night and I’ll read a little from the book and maybe some new work. You can read your own work too! Check back to this blog for details, all thanks to Cameron and the new management at Barnes & Noble. “Naked Skydiving” is available in the fiction section under the S’s for Schaffner, my last name. If I see you in the store, I’ll autograph your copy! Next, I’ll be working to get the book in every Barnes & Noble

San Diego Film Week

I was lucky enough to go to a few classy filmmaking parties last weekend. The first one ended San Diego Film Week.

Here’s a few snaps:

This was the stage where music, comedy and the San Diego Film awards appeared.

Here’s a few ladies enjoying their 2 free drinks at the blackjack table.

Lots of San Diego Film Awards were handed out. I didn’t see most of the films so I can’t really comment on them.

I did attend the San Diego 48hr Film festival and saw a few there. My favorite was called, “Sorry To Bother You.” I don’t think I’d want participate in that festival because you have to pay them to pressure yourself and your cast & crew to finish a film in 48 hours, and besides the little trophy and admiration of your peers, the financial return seems minimal for all your expenses.  True, low or no budget films must be done within a few weeks before participants lose interest. But 48 hrs seems crazy to me.

Festivals abound around the world, online and they are a great way these days to establish yourself as a filmmaker.Lots of trophies were handed out that night like faux Oscars, but I won’t bore you with them. Anyway, the price of admission included 2 free drinks and 2 tacos. Rice and beans were $6.00 extra. Ouch! I came up with my own drink called the Rummelon which is made of rum, watermelon juice and club soda or sprite. Yum!

Snakeoil cocktails provided the watermelon juice and mixed my original creation. Delicious!

Other than that, there was supposed to be a burlesque show but they thought children would attend so all we got were these “cigarette” girls handing out candy instead.

The next night, was an Oscar party at a fancy La Jolla Mansion for sale. Call me, Jordan Schaffner BRE#01736921 @ 619-346-9433 to make a serious offer over $10 million.

Here’s where you enter and walk the red carpet.

There was also a ballot to guess the Ocar winners with a fairly large cash prize.

Great views all the way to the pacific.

This is the pool.

Incredible!

What a place to watch the Oscars, from your own infinity pool overlooking La Jolla Beach!

Here’s a few great ūüĒ• fireplace shots

Some beautiful flowers from the party.

And the Oscar goes to…”La La Land,” no, no, I mean “Moonlight.” Well, we all know that story by now.

Day of the Dead. Old Town 2016

As I understand it, the Mexican Day of the  Dead, is a holiday that lets people visit with their deceased relatives and it has a sense of humor about it. People bring their dead relatives their favorite food & drink. They are depicted doing many fun things like enjoying music and weddings. Because of it’s proximity to Mexico, Old Town San Diego celebrates the Day of the Dead every year in many of its’ shops & public squares.

A Little Early For Halloween In La Jolla

After closing the sale of my parents home in Oceanside,  unfortunately, my Dad fell down and ended up in the La Jolla VA hospital at the escrow office.  A beautiful sweet woman in the parking lot saw it happen, helped me lift him up and gave him some bandages. She really reaffirmed my faith in human nature.

Afterwards,¬†we went¬†to visit him¬†at the hospital.¬†¬†Then,¬†my date & I¬†went to La Jolla shores for dinner.¬† We saw this¬†restaurant¬† called Barbarella that was decorated¬†thoroughly with these scary animated Halloween characters. In fact, it was so scary that my date didn’t want to eat there because of the giant fake spiders, even if they were near a romantic fireplace.

Since my “Day of the Dead” pictures from a few years ago became¬†my most popular blog, I figured that I should share some of these¬†fun early resHalloween¬† images as well.¬† My Dad is feeling better now too.

Yoga Surfing In Coronado

While eating Hawaiian “pupus”at Peohe’s on the Coronado ferry landing, after writing a real estate offer on the “island,” I got these poetic shots of surfers, doing yoga on their paddle boards. It has been said that photography is all about capturing the moment.  These are some of my moments.

Wonder Woman @ Comic-Con

After attending Comic-Con this year, we walked in on this crowd pleasing Super Hero, juggling & shaking her “thang” after dark in the closed off streets of San Diego’s Gaslamp District.

Watch “Natural Born Burlesque Thrillers @ The San Diego Fringe Festival”¬†

One thing about the Fringe Festival is that it can make old deteriorating buildings that are on “the fringe” of acceptability here in San Diego trendy with art. This sexy Burlesque dance troupe is quite an example.

See “Naked Skydiving” @ The Ocean Beach Street Fair, Booth 348, today on Newport Ave from 11AM-8PM!

Stop by for a “Naked Skydiving”T-Shirt or a copy of “Naked Skydiving,” now selling on Amazon.com for as much as $2,400! Street Fair Special just $20.00, or for Tennessee’s art, or sell or buy a home with us, since we are also licensed real estate agents, BRE #00628673.

“Naked Skydiving” Banned From Barnes & Noble

ignoble2My book “Naked Skydiving” was banned from the Mira Mesa Barnes & IgNoble tonight.¬† Ironically, the book was¬† published by Barnes & Noble but they won’t hold a book signing for books published by iuniverse, Barnes & Noble’s brand of print on demand publishing, that I signed with.

Some of you may disagree with what I did, but I unintentionally walked into the store during another author’s¬† book signing that asked people in the audience to tell stories about their dating life. So I raised my hand and was called upon. I started tell people about my dating life and my book, “Naked Skydiving” that has dating scenes in it from a male perspective. My girlfriend encouraged me to tell people about the book, so¬† I asked permission from the authors to see if they wanted me to get¬† a few copies out of the car and show it to them and they said “Yes” in front of their audience. So I brought the books in to show it to them.¬† I said I didn’t want to steal their thunder but can I show you a copy? One of the authors looked at me like she wanted me to leave the book on the table so she could read it later, which I did.

After the storytelling and question and answer period was over, I realized that photographers¬† were taking pictures of the authors during their book signing and my book was still on the table.¬† So much the better, I thought.¬† But after a while, I noticed the book was missing. I wondered where it went so I asked the community manager in charge of book signings where my book was.¬† She indicated that perhaps they kept it as a gift.¬† I thought about the fact that this might promote it in some way, and decided to let them keep it.¬† Then I offered the manager¬† a free copy. She said they were having an author’s night soon and she’d read it to see if she wanted to include it.¬† I exchanged contact information with her and started writing my contact information to leave for the authors too.

Apparently, all of their encouragement, like much in life was phony. While I was jotting it down,¬† a man came up and rudely said he was the store manager. He said that he took my book and put it in his briefcase.¬† He wondered why I was writing notes and he was very angry about it. I told him I was just leaving my info to the authors so they could get in touch with me if they wanted to.¬† He said¬† I was bothering several people making them uncomfortable because this was their event and not mine.¬† I told him I understood where he was coming from, and that I asked permission every step of the way and they said “Yes.”¬† He said he would give the book to the authors with my contact info, but he wanted me to leave.¬† I said if you’re going to throw the book out, I want it back.¬† He agreed to give “Naked Skydiving” and my contact info to the authors. I didn’t want any trouble but he was very agitated so I started to leave and¬† I nervously left one of my books on a shelf by accident. He accused me of trying to further promote my book because a copy was still on the shelf and told me to “get the fuck out of here before it gets worse.”¬† He gave me all of the copies of my book back with my contact info.¬† I had to find my girlfriend and leave. She was somewhere in the store so after being escorted out by the community manager, I called her and only got her voicemail.¬† I had her paged so we could go. I told her the story since she wasn’t present when he accosted me. For these reasons and the fact that Barnes and Noble overcharges iuniverse authors for their own books when they buy them in the store, I strongly urge you to BOYCOTT BARNES & NOBLE and get you’re copy of “Naked Skydiving” from my @square online store now, or if you see me around town in San Diego, I’ll sign a copy for you. Shop online or at an independent bookstore instead. You’ll be treated better.

I didn’t mean to upstage the authors or horn in on their action. I asked for consent every step of the way. Apparently, their consent was insincere. And they are so afraid of sharing the spotlight, that they had to throw me out. Perhaps they feared my book would sell more than the one being signed.
