Watch “Natural Born Burlesque Thrillers @ The San Diego Fringe Festival”

One thing about the Fringe Festival is that it can make old deteriorating buildings that are on “the fringe” of acceptability here in San Diego trendy with art. This sexy Burlesque dance troupe is quite an example.

Day Off @Stone Brewery

image

I had a day off on Tuesday  so we went to world famous Stone Brewery in Escondido, CA which is located at Citracado Parkway, a beautiful citrusy avocado street name.  It’s a very unique place where they not only brew many different kinds of beer, but have a Stone Brewery Restaurant, and a beautiful place to walk where you can see many synthetic natural scenes like the ones shown below. It’s kind of like Busch Gardens here in San Diego or a beer Disneyland.   It’s a tad on the odd side though because everywhere you look you see their company symbol of the devil.  I asked one of the waiters if the place was cursed. He said “No, but the symbol is there to put a curse on their competitor’s bad beer.  I tried a dark beer sampler, and it was really geither, except for the icky mint curry on the side and most of the food was organic. The apple cheese platter was amazing! I’ve never had a tastier apple, probably because it was organic too.   The prices were kind of high though.

Actually, the devil like symbol may not be evil after all. Perhaps the owners of this billion dollar facility were pagans.   It seemed that they worshipped the beautiful nature all around them and Pan, a pagan symbol of a man with wings and a tail, was a nature god who was worshipped before he was demonized by Christianity. Lots of stone symbols here too. My advice to you, “Everybody Must Get Stoned.”at the Stone Brewery.

“Naked Skydiving” Banned From Barnes & Noble

ignoble2My book “Naked Skydiving” was banned from the Mira Mesa Barnes & IgNoble tonight.  Ironically, the book was  published by Barnes & Noble but they won’t hold a book signing for books published by iuniverse, Barnes & Noble’s brand of print on demand publishing, that I signed with.

Some of you may disagree with what I did, but I unintentionally walked into the store during another author’s  book signing that asked people in the audience to tell stories about their dating life. So I raised my hand and was called upon. I started tell people about my dating life and my book, “Naked Skydiving” that has dating scenes in it from a male perspective. My girlfriend encouraged me to tell people about the book, so  I asked permission from the authors to see if they wanted me to get  a few copies out of the car and show it to them and they said “Yes” in front of their audience. So I brought the books in to show it to them.  I said I didn’t want to steal their thunder but can I show you a copy? One of the authors looked at me like she wanted me to leave the book on the table so she could read it later, which I did.

After the storytelling and question and answer period was over, I realized that photographers  were taking pictures of the authors during their book signing and my book was still on the table.  So much the better, I thought.  But after a while, I noticed the book was missing. I wondered where it went so I asked the community manager in charge of book signings where my book was.  She indicated that perhaps they kept it as a gift.  I thought about the fact that this might promote it in some way, and decided to let them keep it.  Then I offered the manager  a free copy. She said they were having an author’s night soon and she’d read it to see if she wanted to include it.  I exchanged contact information with her and started writing my contact information to leave for the authors too.

Apparently, all of their encouragement, like much in life was phony. While I was jotting it down,  a man came up and rudely said he was the store manager. He said that he took my book and put it in his briefcase.  He wondered why I was writing notes and he was very angry about it. I told him I was just leaving my info to the authors so they could get in touch with me if they wanted to.  He said  I was bothering several people making them uncomfortable because this was their event and not mine.  I told him I understood where he was coming from, and that I asked permission every step of the way and they said “Yes.”  He said he would give the book to the authors with my contact info, but he wanted me to leave.  I said if you’re going to throw the book out, I want it back.  He agreed to give “Naked Skydiving” and my contact info to the authors. I didn’t want any trouble but he was very agitated so I started to leave and  I nervously left one of my books on a shelf by accident. He accused me of trying to further promote my book because a copy was still on the shelf and told me to “get the fuck out of here before it gets worse.”  He gave me all of the copies of my book back with my contact info.  I had to find my girlfriend and leave. She was somewhere in the store so after being escorted out by the community manager, I called her and only got her voicemail.  I had her paged so we could go. I told her the story since she wasn’t present when he accosted me. For these reasons and the fact that Barnes and Noble overcharges iuniverse authors for their own books when they buy them in the store, I strongly urge you to BOYCOTT BARNES & NOBLE and get you’re copy of “Naked Skydiving” from my @square online store now, or if you see me around town in San Diego, I’ll sign a copy for you. Shop online or at an independent bookstore instead. You’ll be treated better.

I didn’t mean to upstage the authors or horn in on their action. I asked for consent every step of the way. Apparently, their consent was insincere. And they are so afraid of sharing the spotlight, that they had to throw me out. Perhaps they feared my book would sell more than the one being signed.

Dreamed That BlackBerry Became An Aircraft Company

Dreamed that they showed one of their new BlackBerry jets in a  commercial performing a test flight.  It was black with the BlackBerry symbol on it  and it looked pretty sleek as it took off for the sky, guided by the voice of mission control.  Then it performed stunts, rolling sideways, upside down and even simulating a crash and burn scenario.  Then the neighbor’s dog barked and woke me up.

In reality, as many people know, BlackBerry now, according to the Wall Street Journal and other news sources, unfortunately has income performance so poor, that the once mighty, global tech company, and original smartphone maker, is laying off alot of people, and may be sold off, or broken apart, since it really did crash and burn,  not in a simulation.

BlackBerry Jet BlackBerry 2It’s also odd, since I have a BlackBerry Playbook, which I got free by working on a progressive dream alarm clock app in a local BlackBerry hackathon,  and it died, when I called customer service recently, they acted in denial of this bad news.  They even said new devices are coming out all the time and they knew nothing about the companies troubles.  It’s true, they did release a new phone just the other day, but with the negative headlines the company is making, what is the future of a device like this no matter how great it could be?  I like my BlackBerry Playbook alot, but one fault the company has is it continually expects users to download supposedly updated software,
treating users like programmers. Recently, another request for downloading a software update appeared on my Playbook.  I downloaded every other software upgrade for it before, even though the downloads do nothing or very little for it’s performance.  Before blindly obeying this time, I read some CrackBerry reviews of the update.  Most people thought their Playbook was faster after the update, but one person said it erased all of their data, so I thought to myself, why not back up my data first on my laptop and then download the update? That way, I’ll have the increase in speed and retain my data.  Here was the problem: the battery was dying and I had to charge it up before I could backup my data.  But all of a sudden, the plug I was using no longer fit, so I couldn’t charge it up anymore and it just died.  I told customer service about this, and they told me to hook up my Playbook to my computer or send it in to them for repairs, which would be the second time I did that in two years. So since I’ve recently closed a million dollar  real estate deal, and can buy a new tablet, I think I won’t send it back.  Why spend more time on an operating system that doesn’t have much of a future?  But who knows? Maybe in the future, possibly partly because of this article, BlackBerry will become an aircraft or even an aerospace company.  Maybe that will become their final software update.

Dreamed That I Became A Copyright Lawyer

I was in this aquarium store looking at the fish and for some reason, there were also bunny rabbits there.  A guy came up to me and said he wanted me to obtain the rights to the Kellogg’s rooster song.  I told my Hispanic associate to negotiate his fee and the guy who wanted the Kellogg’s song thought it was too expensive.  My Hispanic associate then went to another client  and then the dream ended.

The only explanation for this dream that I can think of is that at UCLA, in real life for my graduate work, I was an assistant to an entertainment lawyer and thought of that as a possible  profession for myself at the time, but it seemed to shut down my creativity.  Every fictional person or idea I came up with had to be researched to prevent a potential lawsuit so it was inhibiting.

I also saw a lawyer on the Colbert Report last night, which I watch often since I’m a big fan of his show and the Daily Show.  So that might have triggered this dream.  Also, since I live on a river, a crazy screaming bird and a bullfrog have been keeping me awake at night, so that might be seen as the rooster song and my unconscious has probably woven all of these elements together, so this could be the unusual aquarium  in the dream. I am also considering learning Spanish this year, hence the Hispanic assistant.
