San Diego Film Week

I was lucky enough to go to a few classy filmmaking parties last weekend. The first one ended San Diego Film Week.

Here’s a few snaps:

This was the stage where music, comedy and the San Diego Film awards appeared.

Here’s a few ladies enjoying their 2 free drinks at the blackjack table.

Lots of San Diego Film Awards were handed out. I didn’t see most of the films so I can’t really comment on them.

I did attend the San Diego 48hr Film festival and saw a few there. My favorite was called, “Sorry To Bother You.” I don’t think I’d want participate in that festival because you have to pay them to pressure yourself and your cast & crew to finish a film in 48 hours, and besides the little trophy and admiration of your peers, the financial return seems minimal for all your expenses.  True, low or no budget films must be done within a few weeks before participants lose interest. But 48 hrs seems crazy to me.

Festivals abound around the world, online and they are a great way these days to establish yourself as a filmmaker.Lots of trophies were handed out that night like faux Oscars, but I won’t bore you with them. Anyway, the price of admission included 2 free drinks and 2 tacos. Rice and beans were $6.00 extra. Ouch! I came up with my own drink called the Rummelon which is made of rum, watermelon juice and club soda or sprite. Yum!

Snakeoil cocktails provided the watermelon juice and mixed my original creation. Delicious!

Other than that, there was supposed to be a burlesque show but they thought children would attend so all we got were these “cigarette” girls handing out candy instead.

The next night, was an Oscar party at a fancy La Jolla Mansion for sale. Call me, Jordan Schaffner BRE#01736921 @ 619-346-9433 to make a serious offer over $10 million.

Here’s where you enter and walk the red carpet.

There was also a ballot to guess the Ocar winners with a fairly large cash prize.

Great views all the way to the pacific.

This is the pool.

Incredible!

What a place to watch the Oscars, from your own infinity pool overlooking La Jolla Beach!

Here’s a few great ūüĒ• fireplace shots

Some beautiful flowers from the party.

And the Oscar goes to…”La La Land,” no, no, I mean “Moonlight.” Well, we all know that story by now.

Incredible sunsets from Casa Mira View’s Rooftop Jacuzzi

Below, you can stroll or drive by the side of the apartment complex and see fantastic modern sculptures by San Francisco artist, Damon Hyldreth.

Other modern art is featured though out the complex and there are quite a lot of solar panels on the roof and electric car chargers. Some of the chargers are open to the public for a fee and others are private. They also have a party room for karaoke, an indoor fluorescent bowling alley, and food trucks stop by frequently.

At the beautiful pool, ¬†they ¬†show movies at night that are mostly family oriented. There’s even a merry go round and a choo choo train for little kiddies, and for big kiddies a massive gym called the high voltage fitness center.

On the Road 2 Sedona

image

Against my better judgment, I decided to spend my paid vacation going to Sedona, AZ on a bus. It was a luxury bus with air conditioning, TV, and free WI-Fi.¬† But the schedule was conspicuously missing before the trip. I found out after we were held “captive,” the only drawback is that we had to be on the bus every day by 8AM. I’m not sure if you would call it a vacation or a job.

Edit Video On Your Big Screen TV

I wrote and filmed this screenplay and since I know Adobe Premiere Pro, I can edit it too.

It’s really great to have an editing workstation on my big screen TV.  You
can see all the details in a shot so you can edit more precisely.

My thanks to all who worked on this trailer in progress including actor Paul Landrum, videographer, Dan Dorschel, actress, Tenesee and others. Special thanks to Computerbears.net for setting me up with this big screen Windows 10 workstation.

Bikini Atoll Dream

A SURREAL FANTASY ABOUT THE ISLAND OF BIKINI ATOLL

Dreamed a few nights ago that I was telemarketing again like I used to for the Welk Resort, and then they needed somebody to write articles.¬† I thought they picked me to do it but I was in a school like UCLA that had rabbis studying and I had my friend’s phone.¬† It rang so I tried to call her but she of course couldn’t answer cause I had her phone. I wanted her and her friends to know that I had gone and seen the beautiful blue waters of¬†Bikini¬†Atoll, with smoke coming out of its crater.¬† I called again and finally got ahold of them and asked them to meet me there. They agreed

This dream mirrors the phases in my life from telemarketer to reporter to student to relationships to explorer of a beautiful but deadly paradise, Bikini Atoll, where the first atomic bomb was tested, which made the whole island so radioactive, that all the natives had to be relocated. Yet, it is still reported to be a beautiful place for scuba diving¬†and finding hidden¬†sunken treasures.¬† It also reminds me of the cover of my book,” Naked Skydiving,” with its blue and green island on the front of the book. Maybe this dream explains the explosive improvement in sales of¬†my “Naked Skydiving novel¬†that I’m experiencing lately. Creating and living just from your writing or art can be dangerous but beautiful, and with God’s help and my friends, that’s what I’m experiencing now. The book’s price has also gone up, on Amazon. It originally sells for $18.95, yet I saw one Amazon retailer reselling an autograph copy I signed, for $50.00!¬† Pretty cool and exciting!¬† You can still order your copy for $18.95 on www.iuniverse.com¬†or if you meet me somewhere¬†in San Diego, I’ll be happy to autograph it for you in person and it’ll still be only $18.95.
